Evaluation of Bucharest

It all began when I accompanied a friend who was starting a new job as a pizza maker in the capital of Romania, a city that often divides opinion, inspiring both enthusiasm and distrust. Some people love it, others find it hostile. And yet, it's precisely this atmosphere of mystery and contrast that makes Bucharest so fascinating. As soon as I arrived, I was overwhelmed by the confusion, the noise, and the endless movement, a river of cars and people that never seemed to stop. Even something as simple as finding a free taxi felt surreal and almost like an achievement, as if just getting into a car was already a small victory.
The city, divided into six sectors, is a mosaic of very different realities and the feeling of security or danger can change radically from one neighborhood to another: some sectors are notorious, places where crime feels almost palpable in the air, areas so infamous that even the most experienced taxi drivers refuse to enter, sometimes flatly declining to take passengers there.
It is not uncommon to hear stories of unpleasant episodes and caution here is truly essential, especially when exploring unfamiliar neighborhoods or straying from the busiest streets. Yet, just by heading toward the city center, the atmosphere changes completely: suddenly, it feels like another city altogether. The streets are alive, filled with people strolling between clubs and outdoors bars, with a vibrant energy that invites you to explore every corner.
During the day the center offers striking sights , starting with the monumental "Palatul Parlamentului", the mammoth Parliament Palace, one of Bucharest's icons, symbolizing a burdensome yet fascinating past.
Walking through the streets of the center is an experience that allows you to discover a city that wants to leave behind the shadows of the past and offer the visitor unexpected corners of beauty and authenticity and if you want a moment of pure relaxation, the famous baths of Bucharest (famous throughout Europe) are an unmissable stop for those who want to take a break and immerse themselves in well-being.
When evening falls, however, the city changes face: the lights lower, the shadows lengthen and Bucharest shows its most ambiguous and mysterious side.
I spent the night exploring different clubs and bars, but I must admit, I never felt completely at ease, always with the sense that I needed to stay alert.
In some bars I found myself in front of scenes that seemed to come out of a movie: flashy men surrounded by very young girls, jewels and gold that shone under the soft lights, an almost surreal atmosphere, yet real and all this in clubs that were not nightclubs but simple bars with a little music in the background.
Unfortunately, my experience in Bucharest was concentrated in a single night and I did not have the opportunity to thoroughly explore its night life but I am sure that, among its thousand facets, the city also knows how to offer unforgettable and safe evenings, maybe it only takes a little more time to really discover them and who knows, maybe one day I will come back to check if Bucharest, under its rough surface, also hides a sweeter and more welcoming soul.
