Unfortunately, my experience in Milan was not all roses. On the contrary, it was marked by an episode that left me with a sense of bitterness and disappointment that is hard to forget. Milan is undoubtedly a beautiful, vibrant and lively city, but I can't deny that it also hides a much darker and more dangerous side than many imagine.

I'm just one of the many who fell victim to theft in the city. In my case an iPhone X was stolen and the worst part is that I didn't even realize how it happened. I only remember being near Parco Sempione in what felt like a moment of calm, when I suddenly noticed that my phone was gone.

What followed was a mix of anger, helplessness, and a deep sense of injustice . I immediately went to file a police report, at first convinced that my case was just an isolated stroke of bad luck. But within minutes at the station, it become clear I was not alone: other people were telling stories just like mine. The officers themselves confirmed that thefts, especially of phones and valuables, are an everyday occurrence in Milan , with an overwhelming number of reports piling up day after day.

What struck me most, however, was not the theft itself but the thought of the long term consequences. How many tourists, Italian and foreign, experience something similar in Milan or other Italian cities? How many, after being robbed in Milan , decide not only never to return, but also to discourage friends, family and colleagues from visiting? It's an immense loss for tourism, a serious blow to the city's image, something that risks impoverishing both Milan and Italy as a whole.

What I truly cannot understand is how, even today, a modern and forward looking city like Milan is still unable to guarantee greater safety, especially in the areas most frequented by tourists and locals.

I have learned my lesson and I now know that one must always be careful. But I remain convinced that it shouldn't be so difficult to walk peacefully through one of Italy's greatest cities without the constant fear of being robbed at any moment..

I share this experience not only to vent my frustration but also to warn anyone planning to visit Milan or any other big city, for that matter, to stay alert and protect themselves.
