Evaluation of San Lorenzo Bellizzi

In August 2023 I was lucky enough to live an experience that defining it "authentic" would be reductive: the discovery of San Lorenzo Bellizzi, a small village of just 500 souls set in the hills of Calabria where time seems to have slowed down until it almost stopped; come with me... to discover one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, a place where to live calmly and find yourself.

From the moment I arrived, breathing in the clean air scented with wild herbs and hearing the sound of my footsteps on the paved streets beneath me, I perceived the unique feeling of being truly far from everything, immersed in a place where history and community life remain an integral part of everyday life.

San Lorenzo Bellizzi, with its stone houses leaning into one another, its silent alleys and the view of the hills fading into the horizon, captured my heart instantly.

What made this trip really special was having the possibility to participate in Adriano Pappalardo's concert in the square: the latter, which during the day was the quiet heart of the town, by night it  transformed into a vibrant stage alive with families, elders, young people and children, gathering  under the stars to share a moment of celebration that would remain in many hearts.

As I wandered among the stalls, savoring the aromas of local cuisine and listening to the villagers' stories, I felt deeply the connection and the sense of belonging that bind this small yet vibrant community together.

And then, finally, the long-awaited moment arrived: Adriano Pappalardo stepped onto the stage and the words full of emotion crossed the ancient walls of the village creating a magical and unforgettable atmosphere that united everyone in one great emotion.

When the concert ended and the square slowly emptied, I stopped to look at the starry sky above San Lorenzo Bellizzi and I realized that it is precisely these moments that give meaning to travel: the chance to feel part of a community that welcomes you as one of them.

Even though, for various reasons, I was not able to take many photos of this trip, the memory of those emotions, the warmth of the people and the special atmosphere I experienced will remain imprinted in my heart and still live today in the video I created to share this unique experience.
