I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful location in 2019 by chance, as it was part of the itinerary "The Secret Mediterranean" on Costa Victoria, a wonderful cruise ship that, unfortunately, no longer exists today but I invite you to read the dedicated article.
It is immediately clear that Saranda is a place designed for international tourism but what really surprised me was the incredibly low cost of living compared to other Mediterranean destinations. For example, a simple coffee costs just fifty cents, almost symbolic if you consider that most of the clientele are foreign visitors on holiday .
Unfortunately, the following year the pandemic arrived that stopped everything, and even today I haven't had the chance to return and explore Saranda and its surroundings more deeply. However, from my brief experience I can say that I have debunked many prejudices about Albania, it is not true that it is dangerous, on the contrary, I found a very clean, tidy, welcoming and full of kind and helpful people. Many guys also speak Italian well, which makes it the ideal destination even for those who are not confident with foreign languages.
For me, Saranda remains one of the most beautiful surprises of that summer and I am convinced that it deserves much more than just a single day of visit. It truly has everything it takes to become one of the top destinations in the Mediterranean.
