If you think about it, it's like "seizing the sea" or the beach, which ,by law, is not even possible since natural heritage cannot be "purchased" , "acquired" or transferred to third parties!

Another place I visited with great interest was the natural reserve of Torre Salsa, a beautiful beach. Unfortunately, to access it you have to drive down  a long, narrow unpaved road full of potholes. Some might argue that this is to be expected in a nature reserve, but the real problem is that once you finally get to the bottom, you have to pay for parking, and you are not allowed to stay on the beach after 7-8 p.m. When parking becomes "free", you are forced to leave or risk a fine of around 400 Euro. Honestly, it feels unacceptable to charge for parking when the access road is in such poor condition.

To make matters worse, the whole province and in particular the state road, is covered with speed cameras. You risk getting a fine at every turn.

In addition, I noticed exorbitant prices and several "locals" are not very welcoming. I often felt judged or stared at for no apparent reason. This seems to be a common issue in some smaller villages of the Agrigento hinterland. My impression was later confirmed by other locals who told me that they had moved to different Sicilian cities for this reason. The only exception was the Ribera area, where I found cheerful and welcoming people who completely changed the atmosphere.

Will I return to the province of Agrigento? Honestly, I don't think so.

Why did Agrigento disappoint me? Well there are many reasons! First of all I found it difficult to get around without a private vehicle. Agrigento is basically a "satellite city", and while the historic center is beautiful, it was practically deserted!

But the biggest disappointment came when I decided to visit the ladder of the Turks finding a no access sign in front of me!

In fact, this famous natural wonder can no longer be visited as it has been "seized" due to a dispute with a private owner, leaving many tourists (especially foreigners) extremely disappointed. What is worse, those who violate this restriction whether by land or by sea are subject to a hefty fine.
