Agrigento is... how do you define it? It is not the classic city with a well-recognizable center and a periphery that surrounds it, on the contrary, Agrigento is almost a set of different worlds that connect to each other like satellites along a state road that crosses them, creating an urban landscape that is completely unique compared to the other cities of Sicily.

Evaluation of Agrigento and surroundings

The province of Agrigento is really vast and, in order to explore it in depth, it is absolutely essential to have a car available: only in this way is it possible to discover all its beauties, often hidden or distant from each other.
During my trip I explored more or less the entire area reaching the border with the province of Trapani covering several kilometers to discover landscapes and places that deserve at least a visit.
Among the main stages, I cannot fail to mention the Historic Center of Agrigento: agglomeration of alleys and very well-kept streets where you can breathe history and tradition, even if walking through its streets I often felt like in a ghost town with very few people around, as if it were a place suspended in time.
Another wonder is the Scala dei Turchi, a white cliff of a unique beauty that, however, unfortunately, is no longer accessible today due to prohibitions and limitations: a real shame because the temptation to walk those natural steps is very strong.
The Valley of the Temples, on the other hand, is one of those places that reconciles you with ancient history: a world-famous archaeological park that certainly deserves an in-depth visit, perhaps relying on a guide to grasp every secret and every nuance.
I also made a stop at the Torre Salsa Nature Reserve, a wild and uncontaminated oasis, the beach is really long and there is also a naturist part, even if here the limitations are numerous and sometimes they can make you turn up your nose for example you have to leave the reserve within a certain time in the evening, under penalty of a fine just to make money.
Finally, among the most beautiful surprises of my trip, I discovered Seccagrande and Ribera: small centers by the sea that conquered me for the cheerful and authentic atmosphere with the seafront that in the evening turns into a large pedestrian area full of bars, music and people dancing in the street creating a feeling of celebration and hospitality typical of the most genuine Sicily.
So the trip was an alternating of ups and downs, I don't think I'll go back in the near future.

Agrigento is almost a set of different worlds that connect with each other along a state road that crosses them creating a completely unique urban landscape compared to the other cities of Sicily, this "fragmented" nature makes Agrigento difficult to describe and perhaps even a little more complicated to live for those who visit it without knowing the area well, but at the same time gives it a particular charm, an identity that escapes the classic definitions, before proceeding I tell you that I didn't like the province of Agrigento that much, to find out why you can read my article "Agrigento, what a disappointment", in any case if you are in the area it is worth visiting at least the most important places such as the Scala dei Turchi and the famous Valley of the Temples.
