Tourism fairs represent, for those of us working in this sector, one of the most anticipated and important events of the year. They are not only occasions to discover the latest updates on destinations, travel proposals or new tourism trends; above all, they are opportunities to meet colleagues from all over Italy, make new friends, share stories and laughter, exchange advice and a bit of real life.
Before the pandemic, fairs were real "poles of attraction", always full of enthusiastic people eager to meet, learn and create new collaborations.
The atmosphere was unique: every corner buzzed with ideas, conversations, handshakes and stacks of catalogs waiting to be browsed.
Unfortunately, in recent years, due to Covid and its consequences, this vitality has faded somewhat. At least until 2022, things had not yet fully returned to normal. Despite this, those who do take part still do so with the same desire to discover, learn and enjoy themselves.
These events, usually held in resort villages or large accommodation facilities, generally last three to four days and are organized down to the smallest detail.
A typical day begins with a breakfast together with the other operators, already a first moment of socializing, before getting lost among the stands of the tour operators and local authorities: here you can collect valuable information, new catalogs and some original gadgets to bring back to the agency.
During the fair, presentations and events dedicated to new destinations or emerging types of tourism are organized, and you often have the opportunity to listen to experts and professionals in the sector who share their experiences.
One of the most anticipated moments is always the final draw: a ritual that is repeated every year and that rewards some lucky ones with a trip or a voucher usually for two people, adding a pinch of emotion and healthy competition between colleagues.
In the evenings, the atmosphere becomes even more convivial: shows, themed dinners, festive gatherings, even singing and dancing. More than once, I've seen these moments give birth to special friendships, or even love stories, among travel agents. After all, those who work in tourism are often open, sociable people with a genuine desire to live fully and share experiences.
For me, taking part in tourism fairs has now become an essential tradition: they are fundamental events not only for professional updates but also for recharging, building new relationships and living a few days filled with enthusiasm and lightness.
I am convinced that travel agents who do not attend these events truly miss out on something valuable, because fairs are not just part of the profession, they embody the spirit of our work, which beyond being a job, is above all a great passion.
