Evaluation of Marseille

I visited the French Riviera and in particular Montpellier and Cap D'Agde in 2025 and I really enjoyed the area: clean, well kept and safe. I invite you to read the dedicated articles.

Marseille, on the other hand, I happened to visit as a stopover of my western Mediterranean itinerary aboard MSC Grandiosa, and I was very disappointed.

The city itself is not bad, many of the seaside resorts are beautiful, with light typical colors and a Mediterranean style that immediately  puts you at ease, but Marseille is a different story.

As soon as I got off the ship and headed towards the city center, I found only garbage scattered everywhere and many drug dealers openly trying to sell their goods in broad daylight.

After a short tour I decided to go back on board and end my visit. A few years later (always during a cruise) I stopped in Marseille again. I told myself that it was time to give it another chance and see if anything had changed. Unfortunately, nothing had: the situation was exactly the same.

In short, the city has its nice areas, but it also feels largely abandoned to itself, unlike Montpellier. Since that time I promised myself that I would never go back to Marseille.
